Interesting. I've never had the patience or memory for counting cards, but I'm always fascinated by people who can.

So... I'm not trying to brag, but I worked in gaming surveillance for a major Las Vegas Casino for less than a year. My main job, besides NGC compliance and player evaluations for casino execs was looking for what we called "advantage players".

If a player is "counting" they can actually turn the mathematical advantage from the house's favor over to them.. something usually like 1-2% over thousands of hands. It's small, but enough that they get backed off if we can figure it out so to speak.

The legalities behind this behavior is even more strange. According to the NGC (Nevada Gaming Commission) casinos are actually "private card clubs", so they maintain the right to ban anyone from any games for any reason. BUT, card counting is completely legal in NV. Something hollywood has worked hard to spread misinformation about for years.

It was like child's play pointing out the Pit Boss' (House) hypocrisy. You can no longer play by the same rules as others, because we think you're counting cards. Mind you, we don't have to have proof.
